MEDICAL LAWS:

In 1998 Oregon voters approved a measure that went into effect the same year. The measure was one which allowed the use, possession and cultivation of medical marijuana, to treat approved patients with chronic and debilitating illnesses. Oregon residents who are diagnosed with any of the following conditions may receive permission to engage in medical marijuana:

  • Cachexia
  • Cancer
  • Chronic Pain
  • Epilepsy
  • Glaucoma
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Nausea

Note: Individuals who are diagnosed with a condition not on the above list may receive approval from the Health Division of the Oregon Department of Human Resources, to use medical cannabis to treat such an ailment.

Legalities:

Under Oregon’s medical marijuana program patients and their caregivers are restricted to possession of up to 24 ounces (1.5 pounds) of usable cannabis and are allowed to cultivate up to 18 marijuana plants, of which only 6 are permitted to be mature. The state of Oregon considers any plant over 12 inches in height to be mature. Oregon does not offer protection to visiting out-of-state medical marijuana patients, however they do allow these patients to visit an Oregon doctor, register with the Oregon Medical Marijuana Program and are then permitted to possess and use cannabis in Oregon.
